Biography Randal Carr has been playing and writing music since the early 1970s. Classically trained, he has developed a style which is a cross between neo-classical and jazz. Born and raised in Newport, Arkansas, Randal came to love music by age six. His family observed him picking out songs by ear that he had heard during the day. When he entered first grade, he began taking piano lessons and was classically trained for the next fourteen years. In high school, he was influenced by the work of keyboardists Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman, and bands Kansas and Spyro Gyra. During this time he performed with a few local bands with Rock, Jazz and Pop music genres. During college, he played keyboards for the ASU Jazz Ensemble in Jonesboro, Arkansas while studying piano under Dr. J.D. Kelly. It was here that his passion for melding jazz and classical music originated. Over the next two decades he focused on composition, creating dozens of musical numbers and finding his sound. While living in Stuttgart, Germany in 2009, Randal shifted his attention to recording his works and sharing his music. Starting in Stuttgart and finishing in Portland, Maine, he produced and recorded "Morning in Venice"- a collection highlighting his smooth jazz sound. Randal lives in Portland, Maine with his wife Deborah.
